Spies for Peace
On Wednesday 10 April 1963, a group calling itself the Spies for Peace mailed out 3,000 copies of a document entitled Danger! Official Secret from various locations across London. It revealed the purpose and location of Regional Seat of Government 6 (RSG6), part of a network of secret underground bunkers designed to allow a select elite to govern the country in the event of a nuclear attack. The controversial document did not disclose its authors’ identities or the source of their information. Its exposure was timed to coincide with the sixth Aldermaston March against nuclear weapons, held over the Easter weekend. Despite stringent measures by the authorities to suppress publicity, the banned document was circulated quickly and widely.
